Dr. Shane Tonn is co-owner of Newton Animal Hospital.  A Kansas State University graduate, Dr. Tonn is an avid fan of the Wildcat sports teams!  Dr. Tonn has been a trusted veterinarian in the Newton area for over 20 years.  He originally owned two veterinary clinics in Newton which merged to become Newton Animal Hospital.  His patients include dogs, cats and horses.  Dr. Tonn enjoys fishing, hunting, horseback riding, working in his vegetable garden, and traveling to visit his three grown daughters.  Dr. Tonn and his wife, Stacie, share their home with dogs and cats, many of whom began as rescues.

Dr. Paul Friesen

Dr. Paul Friesen
Dr. Paul Friesen had been a veterinarian in Newton before forming a partnership with Dr. Tonn.  Together they built and now own Newton Animal Hospital.  Dr. Friesen focuses on our dog and cat patients. Dr. Friesen is an avid bike rider who has biked through several states and even in the mountains.  Having been raised in Peru, Dr. Friesen enjoys traveling back to visit family members who are still there.  Dr. Friesen is also active in his church and participates in service trips annually.  Dr. Friesen and his wife, Amanda, have 3 grown sons and 1 daughter.  Their family also enjoys their two cats Khalil and Roku.

Dr. Mark Brunson

Dr. Mark Brunson joined our practice in 2016.  After earning his veterinary degree from Kansas State University, he worked in a mixed veterinary practice in Oklahoma.  We are pleased that we were able to bring him back home to Kansas.   He now cares for dogs and cats in our practice.  Our patients and clients appreciate his gentle and patient manner.  When he is not working, he enjoys family activities with his wife, Maggie, and their two daughters. The Brunson family also includes Finley, a Golden Retriever and their cats Tabby and Tom Eliot.

Our Clinic Pets

Flower, Clinic Cat
Flower is our personality-filled clinic cat.  She is an expert at finding treats, playing with toys, and laying on important papers.   Flower likes to "help" at the reception desk by walking across the computer keyboards, trying to bury cups of coffee, and taking over the chairs of our reception team.  But we appreciate her loving purrs and comforting presence the most!  Flower has become a "star" on our Facebook and Instagram pages.  Being somewhat of a "diva," she loves posing for pictures wearing her vast wardrobe of decorative bandanas.  Be sure to follow our Facebook and Instagram pages to keep up with her!

In Memory of Olson
April 3, 2011 - October 24, 2021

Olson was our dearly loved clinic dog.  He loved everyone and made our days at Newton Animal Hospital special.  These are a few of the things we will remember about Olson:  watching him run freely in the dog yard, walking him to the Chisholm Trail Country Store next door so he could carefully choose the perfect treat, watching him gently meet the children who came to visit him, his willingness to wear funny hats and costumes for the holidays, and the gentle carefulness with which he took treats from our hands being careful to never bite us.  Most importantly, we will miss the joy with which he met us every day.  With his ears perked up and his tail wagging, Olson brought love and joy to both staff and clients every day.  Olson was the best clinic dog
and friend anyone could ever ask for.  Thank you for making us all feel special every day.  We love you, Olson.
